Short summary of the last year

Okay... here's what happened the last year... only the highlights.

1. The Poembeggars broke up after a few arguments... Very sad, I know.
2. I had a 3 month fling with a girl called Daisy.
3. I finished my first internship at the university of Utrecht
4. I tried starting a new band with Rick. Didn't work...
5. Started writing a kids musical with Maarten. Quite a lot of fun.
6. Found a new band which is just starting up. Gonna be a lot of fun, I'm sure.
7. Most importantly: I have a very sweet girlfriend now. We've been together for 4 months now and this is the first time in 5 or so years that I've been really in love.

That's about it. The highlights and the err... not quite so high lights..

Still no internet... I'm surprised I'm still alive. Didn't think I would last that long without a connection to the outside world. Not much happened the last two weeks. I visited the girl from italian at her place and we decided to be just friends... I can live with that. Mostly cause I found out that day that she smokes.. eww. Anyway, teh internets should be back at my place next thursday. I hope... I guess we'll see then.

Today was a good day. Woke up with a bit of a hangover and have been lazy all day as a result. I passed one of my 4 exams, don't know the grades of the other 3 yet, so, so far so good. The situation with the girl is... still complicated, but I sent her one last email asking if I couldn't change her mind somehow. We'll see where that leads, probably nowhere, but the least I can do is try.
As for the music, we didn't have a gig tonight, but it was still a good night, musically speaking, wrote lyrics for 2 songs and music for one of those. Both songs are rather depressing, though. Those are always my best.
Oh, and the cable repair people are gonna come and repair our phoneline next thursday, so hopefully I'll have my internet restored then. I'm getting a bit tired of having to go to school during weeks to check my email.

Life is... good. It's so good even my mom said I was extraordinarely happy when I came home tonight. I'm all dancy and bouncy and jumpy and... happy! Wanna know why? I bet you do.

Remember the girl from italian class who wouldn't return my emails? Turns out she'd just had a serious operation on her arm and wasn't really in a state to go out. On wednesday I received an email from her, saying she was feeling better and that she'd like to go out sometime. So we agreed to meet this afternoon, and we did. Haven't had this much fun in ages. I'd say there definitely was some sort of spark... I can't wait to hook up with her again, teehee.

As for my exams.. I think I passed two out of three... the third one I probably didn't pass but eh.. I'm happy, not gonna have exams ruin that. Haven't gotten my grades yet, so anything could happen.

I'm grumpy. Spent most of my night watching tv in the house of our neighbours, watching the kids... well, mostly making sure the house was okay. It made me realize just how fucking lonely I am most of the time. The girl from italian kinda stopped returning my e-mails, so I can probably forget about that.
And that's the two reasons I'm grumpy. Everytime I think things start looking up life cuts off my legs landing me smack bam on my face. Ugh. I hate days like this one.

I choked. No wait, I didn't choke, I completely failed to talk to her today. Her friend was around her all the time and I was being a dork as usual. Now, it's not a big disaster or anything, but what does scare me is the fact that this proves that my self-esteem is nowhere near where it should be. Blah. I have cooked up a cunning plan to figure out her email-address though, but that doesn't get me anywhere in terms of self-esteem.

Ugh... I let myself down again.

Waiting waiting waiting... seems that's all that happens in my life right now. Okay I'm bored as hell since rehearsal isn't starting for an hour. Blah...

Today was.. not good, nor bad. I arrived a tad late at school... about 10 minutes... Not a big deal though, I didn't miss anything vital. Not much happened though, as it's now time to prepare for exams. They're about 2 and a half week from now and I wanna be prepared. No way I'm letting myself fail more exams, that's just not an option.

News on the band, well, there's no news yet, as I haven't rehearsed yet... I might have some more news tonight, though. Oh yeah and the photo shoot is close too. I packed my bags full of all sorts of clothes just in case they need me to be prepared. Last time we had a photoshoot I brought only one set of clothes and well... it was odd seeing the others change lots when I couldn't.

And also, naturally, I'm nervous about wednesday. How am I gonna ask her out and how is she gonna respond? Aaaaaah! *runs around in circles screaming*

Okay, I'm calm again. Best focus on the here and now and the upcoming rehearsal.

Butterflies

I feel... new. Refreshed. I feel like a new chapter in my life has started and is finally gaining some momentum. My studies are going mostly as planned, which is a whole new experience for me. Okay, so I'm not back on schedule yet, but at least I'm working towards it. I'm also working on my workingrhythm, having spent most of the afternoon in the lab. Also, I had italian in the morning which was quite interesting. Something that happened afterwards made me happy, but I'll get to that later.

Anyway, I was in the lab for one project we're doing for a company, via school. They've asked us to devise a way for them to purify horseradish peroxidase from... well, horseradish. Well, actually they've asked us to look over the previous projects that've been done via school and see if there's anything about these projects that we can improve. So that's what we're doing. Today we started our experiment by mashing up a big horseradish root, filtering it through a pantyhose (not kidding) and catching the filtrate, which is what we're gonna be working with from now. Anyway, until today I'd forgotten how much fun it was to poke around in the lab making a mess, wearing white lab coats and those latex gloves that're always too small and make your hands all sweaty.

The band's doing good as well. A new photoshoot is coming up soon (14th of october), and after that it's quite possible we have a gig somewhere in november. I can't wait to get on stage again, it's been months! Rehearsals are going great as well. André is completely used to us and we're completely used to him, which means we're really ready for stage. His singing has given our band a new dimension, along with his playing guitar. Finally the Poem Beggars have 2 guitarists again! He doesn't sing all of the songs, though. "The World Stopped Making Sense" is going to be sung by the person who wrote it: Me! And to be frank, it's working out pretty well. I'm not that bad a singer, really.

The real reason I feel my new chapter in life is picking up is my renewed self-esteem, though. I worked up the courage to talk to a girl today after italian class. A girl I think is cute, no less! Usually I'd choke and have nothing to say, but this time I managed to keep up a small conversation. Next week I'ma try again, maybe even see if I have the guts to ask her out. That's gonna be no small feat, though. I've only twice asked a girl out before and that was on the internet, not face to face.

I feel better, though. A lot better. I haven't felt this good in... well, in years, to be honest.

Yesterday was a good day. The reunion with the people from my old house was interesting and fun. It had been a while since I saw the familie van Tien (the ones who were renting us the house) and they'd provided for us well, just like they always had while we lived there. The food was good and the beer was cold.

Playing trivial pursuit with my old housemates afterwards was just as fun, well, apart from wilbert who'd gotten himself a bit too drunk and was being incredibly annoying before falling asleep at the table. Which, in our house, means it's time for pictures. We played till around 4 in the morning or so.

And breakfast, well, was good. I don't think we've ever had a breakfast with 7 people on sundaymorning here in Eindhoven. It was kinda strange and yet good to have the old people around again.

Also, I'm confused. Internet should've been shut off today cause our contract ended yesterday. And yet we still have connection. Odd, don't ya think?
